Summer is Here!

Last Saturday, May 17. we woke up to a misty morning, with a likely forecast of rain on our Opening Day at the Albert Long Museum, but the promise of sharing the morning with friends and listening to fine bluegrass music with LuAnn Price and Mike Johnson of Quail Run Bluegrass overrode any concern about inclement weather. We had done all we could to get ready for Summer Season 2025 at the museum, and rain or shine, the day was here!
As I pulled in to unload my car to set up at the North Shelter at Entiat Park, Mike and Lu were already there. The rain hadn’t yet started, but the sprinklers had! Our musicians dodged the soaking with agility and humor. A little black coffee helped. By the time our guests started to arrive around 10, Mike and Lu’s picking and harmonizing were warming hearts as their stories told in song brought smiles and laughter. At the break, local and visiting families were treated to homemade sourdough rosemary bread, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. The best times are had with music, food, and stories, and we hope to have lots of that this summer.

Today the sun shone so beautifully on the museum. Our second Summer Saturday of Open Season went great, with lots of visitors from near and far. We are catching up on minor details that remain in our ambitious plans for the summer. We now have some very nice shirts, mugs, notebooks and other items that feature our logo for sale in the museum. Your purchase supports our efforts as we continue to grow. I updated the posters in the kiosk near the museum with our new announcements, especially that on Saturday, May 31, at 1:00 PM, we will be hosting Mac Potts, who is a nationally recognized multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Chelan. Mac Potts began as a child prodigy. Born totally blind, Mac stepped into the spotlight as a professional musician at 14 years old. He progressed from classical piano to jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, and rock and roll – performing solo and collaboratively across North America. I have enjoyed his playing at several venues, including at Blueberry Hills in Manson and at the Chelan Saturday Market. Stop by to see us this coming Saturday and stay to hear some excellent music! I am hoping he will take some requests.

.
The museum will be open on all Saturdays in the summer from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Join us to share stories, learn about life in the Entiat Valley, and how it has evolved over time. Thank you for your support, donations, and interest in this blog, the ECHS, and the Albert Long Museum.
