Working together at the Museum
The sun is just breaking through the clouds this afternoon, coating the hills with light. The darling brave wildflowers reach their petals skyward, a sweet prelude to summer. The morning rain did not stop the Swallowfest Parade in Ardenvoir this last Saturday! Friends and families waved to Queen Jackie Fisher as the parade of firefighters, a tractor, a little red car, kids on bikes, Seahawks float, and hippie van band rode by in a blur of candy and sirens! If would be so much

Ripples across Time and Land
On a sunny day last week. we took a walk through our town's park by the river, the place my heart first fell in love with Entiat in the summer of 1981. We traveled with a group of earnest young families, looking for a place to park our vans and trailers and find work in the famed orchards of North Central Washington. Nature's beauty, honest labor, and friendly people still bring meaning to our lives four and a half decades later. The opportunity to make Entiat our home has de

Antoine Etienne and Entiat Peaches
We need a special story for this month of February. It has been so very overcast, and the dire news so very oppressive. I think we are all cognizant that we are living in a time of great change and great challenge. We can gain encouragement from those who have been through other times of darkness. Also, just the thought of summer peaches, which make an early appearance here in Entiat thanks to the protagonist in this story brings warmth and sunshine to dreary days. In honor

I wish each of you good health and sweet companionship with those you love, friendship with your neighbors, and wisdom to navigate the questions facing all. The Entiat Community Historical Society is so very grateful for your support. Please know that your donations are well received and will be used to continue the legacy of sharing the stories of Entiat past, and of making the Albert Long Museum a welcoming and interesting home for our artifacts and history. Season's Greetings from the ECHS
As the earth continues its revolutions and the stars in the sky look down on our little valley, we might seem insulated, removed from the dramas and political upheavals. And yet, our ties to all of humanity and all of nature are undeniable and more evident than ever. What is the right way forward? How can we, as a community, be more engaged and more relevant to the world? What decisions do we make now that will later bring hope and goodness to the Entiat Valley and beyond? Al

Gratitude for Community
In late November, only a few fruits and vegetables are left on the vine, hanging to branches or hiding in the earth, those remaining survive by converting starch into nourishing sugar. It is their response to cold, and stress. Carrots and beets are at their very sweetest when they have been through an early frost. The best carrots I have ever eaten were harvested one winter from soft earth from under a blanket of snow. To grow sweet with age is a trait worth nurturing in the
